Giving Tree Projects
“It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20: 35)
The Giving Tree ministry is a bi-annual event whereby gifts are purchased by parishioners to support agencies that help less fortunate children & adults in our community during the Christmas season and retired religious members of the Church during the season of Lent.

The Lenten Tree
We begin the year with St. Albert’s Lenten Tree Project during the season of Lent (late winter). The Lenten Tree Project presents the parish with the opportunity of expressing our appreciation to our retired religious for their service and commitment to the Catholic Church. Last year we helped over 400 religious from various organizations, including the Ursuline Sisters of Mount St. Joseph in Owensboro, KY, the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth through Nazareth Home, Nazerth Home-Clifton, and t he Little Sisters of the Poor.
In February 2017 the incredible parishioner support of the 2016 Lenten Tree was highlighted in the The Record newspaper through an article written by Mary Lynn Thieneman-Legel, the head of our Social Concerns Committee. You can read the article in its entirety by visiting therecordnewspaper.org. The Lenten Tree Project is “the least we can do to show our appreciation to those who have committed their lives to instilling the Catholic faith and Christian values into our lives. Growing old often becomes very lonely. Knowing that others think of you and appreciate your contribution to their lives makes one feel valued and needed, no matter how old we are” (Mary Lynn Thieneman-Legel).
We thank all those who participated in the 2018 Lenten Tree Project –your generosity was overwhelming!
The Christmas Giving Tree
The original Giving Tree project occurs in late November through mid-December, whereby gifts are purchased by parishioners to support agencies that help less fortunate children & adults in our community. Currently St. Albert’s Giving Tree provides gifts to Maryhurst, Golden Living nursing home at Camelot (for Medicaid residents), Central State Hospital (for those seeking treatment of mental illnesses), Good Shepherd Church Outreach in Adair county, the Piarist School Outreach in Martin, KY (Appalachia), and Catholic Charities prison ministries (for the children of prisoners). Over 600 gifts are collected, sorted and delivered through the generosity of parishioners and volunteers who are willing to help with this ministry. The yearly event begins with hanging the ornaments bearing the name and wish list items of each person we serve, and culminates with the sorting and deliveries before Christmas each December. For more information, or to help out, please contact Paula Mattingly at 394-9817.
Thank you to everyone who gave so generously to the Christmas Giving Tree 2017. We had over 600 ornaments on the trees representing 7 organizations from Louisville to Eastern Kentucky!! Many thanks also to everyone who helped sort and deliver the gifts. We could not do this project without you!
